Taiwanese often feel embarrassed to donate small change in public. However, an act of good deserves a big encouragement no matter how small the amount. To encourage the customers who come to 7-Eleven to donate more, we collaborated with ADK and create a robotic clapping wall for 7-Eleven's CSR campaign, "Rhythm of Love." The wall, which consists of 12 pairs of mechanical hands and a donation box, reacts whenever someone inserts money by clapping to applaud donors' contributions. Moreover, the clapping wall performs various modes randomly including “rhythm of love,” a highly-recognizable clapping rhythm in Taiwan, and user-generated rhythms which people can record by clapping their smartphone screens through the campaign website. In order to craft a holistic user experience, our team worked closely with Bye Bye World, a specialist in robotic hand, to make a variety of prototypes for developing authentic clapping sound.
The clapping walls were installed at 7-Eleven stores in major cities across Taiwan and spread rapidly on the internet in 2017. Being awarded at D&AD, One Show Greater China, AdFest, Spikes Asia, etc., this project successfully broke the mental barrier of people donating small change and raised a record high donation for charity.
